Medical Dictionary meaning of the Term Infection


Infection
Infection is an invasion, an intrusion and then growth of a micro-organism(s) into the body tissues, cells which can cause injury to the local cell tissue and cellular structure because of the release of toxins, replication of the micro-organisms into the cellular structure and also because of the reactions of the Immunity which is known as the Antigen - Antibody response.

Infection is also used in reference to the types and manners in which invasion of particular micro - organisms can occur. Micro - organisms are already present into the body, but below certain levels which are tolerable by the body. But if the levels of quantity of the micro - organisms increase, then it leads to what we know as and a sequential turn up of events known as Infection.

Infection can be Airborne Infection , Droplet Infection, Endogenous Infection, Tunnel Infection and Opportunistic Infection.
