Vaginal Infections

The Vagina is the external part or structure of the Female Reproductive System and thus communicates the internally placed Reproductive organs of the Female like the Ovaries, the Uterus and the Cervix.

Vaginal Infections
Since the Vagina is the external part of the Female Reproductive System, it is the most prone of the Female Reproductive Organs to catch infection. The immediate signs of an infection to the Vagina is "Vaginitis" which means Inflammation of the Vagina.

When there occurs Vaginitis, the inflammation produces irritation and discharge from the Vagina which produces itching in the local tissue cells in the Vagina and thus produces a discharge which is termed as the Leucorrhea and along with it, is present foul odor.

While Vaginal infections can be treated by simple treatment and over the couter medicines without the diagnosis and prescription by a doctor, some cases of Vaginal Infections can become severe and a lot troublesome.

Many countries of the world allow Over the counter prescriptions while some Countries have set laws to strictly dispense medicines only under a doctor's prescription.

Vaginal Infections can be transmitted through unhygienic Sexual contact and intercourse, but there are still other ways of catching a vaginal infection.

The Vaginitis caused by the infections in the Vagina cause a lot of distress and discomfort and many a times if these infections are not soon taken care of, the lady can get into serious diseases of such kind.

Symptoms of Vaginal Infections
1. Vaginal discharge
2. Itching in the Vagina around the Vaginal and Urinary track opening.
3. Burning in the Vagina especially during Urination
4. Burning especially during Urination
5. Sometimes no symptoms at all but the Vaginitis in Vaginal Infections is detected when the sexual contact is painful.
Discharge from the Vagina is most of the times Clear, slightly slimy like mucus.

Prevention from Vaginal Infections
Usage of condoms during Sexual Intercourse is a basic and best prevention for transfer of infections and also to reduce infections caused by Sexual Contact.

Limit number of Sex Partners. Ideally, having a single sex partner prevents transfer of microbes which can cause Vaginal Infections from the Infection pool.

Another traditional Habit prevalent among women is Douching.

Douching is a non-hygienic habit and can increase risk factors towards infections. Do not Douche.

And even if you do catch a Vaginal Infection, then do take all the prescribed medicines for you and do not discontinue the medicine course in the middle.

Treatment for Vaginal Infection
The factors causing Vaginal Infections are varied and large. The infection can arise from causes from the Vagina itself or from the problems in the surrounding tissue too. The treatment can be varied from antibiotics medicine tablet course or sometimes with some injection shots or if the debility and weakness is too large, then there can arise a need of Saline Infusions and sometimes along with some Antibiotic Infusions too.
Treatment should be taken strictly with the advice of your Gynecologist and self treatment or over the counter medicines should be avoided.
