How to do a stress relieving facial massage at home

A facial massage always helps out in relaxing and stress relieving. Indulging oneself once in a while by visiting a spa is good. But massage at spa is a bit costlier so one can get a facial massage done at home either by self or with a minimal help from others.

Things to collect before starting a face massage:

Hot water
Steamer
Face Cleanser
Towels
Moisturizer

Note: Do not have sharp nails before starting a facial massage

Steps to follow to do a facial massage
Step 1:Wash and cleanse face with a good cleanser to remove the dead cells. (Women tie the hair up with a band without falling on face).

How to make a home made cleanser
Take 2 tbsp of Oats and 1/4 cup of sour curd. Mix both to form a fine paste and rub on to face. Oats and curd help in cleansing and also exfoliating dead cells.

Step 2
Steam the face with a steamer or wet the towels in warm water and put them on face. This is to open up the pores. Instead of steamer, one can steam the entire face by showing it in a bowl of warm water covering with a thick shawl or bed sheet. The steaming should be done for about 5 to 10 minutes.

Step 3
Do not use any skin toners so that the pores remain open. Lie down with a head elevated by a pillow or sit in a chair in which you can rest your neck. Apply moisturizing cream preferably almond or aloevera based creams. Rub the hands to make them warm and rub the moisturizer on the face skin giving more attention to the forehead, chin and cheeks.

Step 4
Rub the moisturizer on to the skin. The facial massage process begins here. The facial massage should be done from the chin and move upwards towards the fore head. With the tips of fingers massage the face in circular motions. Rub the sides of the nose so that any dirt is removed. Apply pressure in the cheek bones slightly and move to the fore head.

Massage the area around the eyes in circular motion and giving pressure to the bones near the temples. Massage from the centre of the face and move towards the ear. Never massage giving downward strokes.

Step 5
Massage the forehead by starting from just above the nose and working towards the sides of the face. The tension areas of the face are just above the eyebrows, temples and close to the nose. Massage those areas with giving a bit more pressure but massaging slowly. The massage in these areas can be given for about a minute or two so that it will relax more.

Step 6
Massaging the Sinus area is more important while giving a facial massage. Squeeze the bridge of the nose with thumb and index finger for about 30 seconds. After 30 seconds move the pressure upwards by pressing towards the brow bone. Brow bone should be given extra pressure to relieve stress and also to reduce Sinus.

Small circular motions close to the brow and also in the bridge area gives more relief to the sinus area. One can also give pressure on the cheek bones.

Step 7
The entire massage takes about 15 to 20 mins. At the end of the massage rub the skin with a piece of ice cube wrapped in a clean cloth. This will help in firming too.

After doing this apply a face mask made of honey and curd. (This face mask is suitable for all skin types).

Mix yogurt and honey together and apply it on to face. Leave it for about 15 mins and wipe it off with a warm cloth.
