This resource is an informative article for infections and troubles associated with Urinary Tract Infection.

The Urinary Tract is a important pathway to expel the metabolic waste products which are expelled through the Kidneys and the Glomerulus and Nephron.

The Urinary Tract and Kidneys

The Kidneys are purplish - brown in colour and are positioned nearly the lower thoracic ribs and the lumbar area and near the medial region and the spiune of the back.

The basic function of the kidneys is to remove excess amount of wastes from the body which are created in the form of liquids which are extracted from the blood and which thus form the urine. The disposal of liquids from the blood is regulated so as to maintain the balance in the salt content and the liquid percentage in the blood. Other functions of the kidneys are to aid in the development of the red blood cells.

The urinary tract continues from the kidneys below in the form of thin tubes which are called as Ureters which connect below to the Urinary Bladder which acts as a temporary storage reservoir of urine. The urinary tract continues below the Urinary bladder in the form of Urethra which is short in females and long in males and opens in the exterior and thus helps in voiding urine.

How Urinary Tract Infection Occurs

Urinary tract infection occurs in any part of the Urinary tract. Bacteria and other micro-organisms are able to infect the urinary tract and thus gives rise to urinary tract infection, also known as UTI.

The urine which is normally devoid of any bacteria in it gets contained with bacteria and they start multiplying in the urine which becomes a rich and favorable medium for the bacteria to grow and multiply.

According to the seat of origin of the infection in the urinary tract, the UTI gets different names (nomenclatures) like "Pyelonephritis" and "Cystitis" which involve inflammation of the respective parts of the urinary tract.

Various treatments for Urinary Tract Infection

Whichever site be the origin of UTI, the treatment is quite easy if taken care of in the early stages of the infection itself.

Modern Medicine therapy involves usage of respective Antibiotics to reduce the Bacterial colonies and numbers below threshold level.

Patient experiences burning and pain along the urinary tract for which treatment has to be given accordingly.

Ayurvedic treatment includes medicines like : Sabja seeds, Tulsi Seeds to be put in water and then be drank in the morning along with water or milk, Gokshur Kadha (Charata Extract) or also known as Tribulus Terrestris Extract using the whole plant, Renalka Medicines by Himalaya Drugs etc.

Homoeopathic medicines include Berberis Vulgaris mother tincture, Cantharis Mother Tincture and medicines which match the patient's constitution.

Cranberry juice is also used for treating UTI as it contain proanthocvanins which annihilate the bacteria and prevent them from attaching to the urinary tract.
